World Cement,
Buzzi Unicem’s Augusta plant held an open day for youngsters, mostly children of employees, so that they could spend a day at the cement plant. The children were welcomed by plant manager Gionvanni Caire, who gave them a brief overview of the cement production cycle.
The first visit of the day was to the laboratory, where the supervisor described which tests and how many are performed on the raw materials, clinker, fuels and end product.
This was followed by a tour of the Control Room, coal depot, kiln, burner and substation, and also included a discussion on safety and the importance of PPE.
At the end of the visit, the children were unanimous in their opinion: “We never would have thought that so much technology and professionalism went into a bag of cement!”
