Ambuja Cements commissions new grinding unit

Ambuja Cements, India, has commissioned a 1.5 million t grinding unit in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh. Construction of the plant began in January last year and the cost of the project is estimated at Rs 300 crore.

Environmental awareness
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal inaugurated the plant, which is Ambuja Cements’ 12^th in India and its third in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Dhumal also stressed the government’s priorities regarding employment and environmental issues. As a contribution to this, the new plant’s emission levels will be much lower than the State Pollution Control Board’s limit – 50 mg/Nm3. As well as being energy efficient, the plant will use flyash from thermal power plants in Punjab and Haryana; furthermore, the project will achieve sustainable development with several other environment conservation and pollution prevention measures, including treatment and recycling of wastewater, rain water harvesting and monitoring of the ambient air quality at the plant site.

Meeting demand
The facility is located towards the foot of the Himalayas, near to Punjab and will use clinker from Ambuja Cements’ Rauri plant, 95 km from the new facility. The plant has been set up in an attempt to help meet increasing demand as a result of the government’s pledge to develop more infrastructure.
