Cement prices set to fall in India

World Cement,

Cement prices in India are expected to drop 8 – 10% by the end of the week as producers feel the effects of weakening demand in the nation. While current cement prices stand in the region of Rs.235, they are set to fall to around Rs. 200 – 220 per 50 kg bag from the beginning of July.

This follows two recent price corrections in the country – one in May and another in June, where the south was particularly affected, seeing prices drop by around 30%. While other parts of the country did not escape unscathed, increased demand in the north as a result of demand for infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games offered compensation.

H. M. Bangur, Managing Director of Shree Cement, said “prices will bounce back after the monsoon. The infrastructure sector is expected to drive the demand.”
