Siam Cement announces expansion plan details
Cement plant expansion
According to local reports, Thailand’s Siam Cement is investing US$350 million in a new cement plant in West Java, Indonesia. The plant will have a production capacity of 1.8 million tpa and is expected to begin operations in 2015. The greenfield plant forms part of the company’s expansion plans for the region, which will also include a cement packaging plant in Thailand. In addition, Siam Cement plans to invest approximately US$179 million on a second 900 000 t cement line at its plant in Kampot, Cambodia.
Quarterly results
Siam Cement’s net profit for 3Q12 came in at 6.42 billion baht. This marks an increase from the 4.28 billion baht profit recorded in 2Q12, but a decline from 3Q11’s 7.38 billion baht result. The 13% y/y fall has been attributed to a weak performance from the group’s paper and petrochemical sectors, with analysts predicting that a decline in these branches of the business will outweigh positive performances in cement and building materials in 4Q12.
