Cemex’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals led them to launch the SHIELD (Safety and Health Initiatives for Enablers, Leaders and Doers) Programme in the Philippines. In line with Goal 3, the programme promotes the importance of health and safety to customer’s employees and contractors in the country.
As part of the programme Cemex provides hardware store employees and workers with ‘Health Wallets’, which can be used to redeem medical services like consultations and check-ups. Cemex also installed first-aid cabinets for employees in almost 100 hardware stores across the Philippines. Construction worksites were also furnished with essential safety signage.
The SHIELD programme is designed to extend Cemex’s health and safety values to its retail and institutional partners in the Philippines. Cemex proactively trains its employees and contractors to become safety leaders who will promote high safety standards and best practices in the construction industry and in the communities where the company operates.
“As a company that upholds a culture of health and safety in its operations, Cemex aims to lead the way towards practicing high safety standards in the construction industry and encourages our partners and customers to do the same,” said Camille Ladores, Cemex marketing officer in the Philippines.
