World Cement,
According to The Nation, Siam Cement Group is planning to invest between US$200 – US$300 million in Cambodia in the next five years, in addition to existing investment plans. The new funding would go towards adding a third production line to its Kampot plant in southern Cambodia and the doubling of its network of ready-mix concrete plants. The company currently has 14 ready-mix plants in Cambodia, which account for about 10 – 15% of its sales there.
SCG has a 2 million tpy cement plant about 130 km from Phnom Penh, which originally commenced operations in 2007 and added a second line more recently. The plant is expected to reach full capacity utilisation within three or four years, replacing some of the imported cement from Thailand. Cambodia’s total cement demand is estimated at 4 million tpy.
