Lafarge Pakistan makes further strides in road safety

World Cement,

In September 2014, Lafarge Pakistan made a further step in increasing road health and safety by providing 27 People Road Transport Safety (PRTS) compliant vehicles to various employees. To mark the occasion, ceremonies were held at Lafarge Pakistan’s head office in Islamabad on 18 September and at its plant in Chakwal, Kallar Kahar, on 19 September.

This is the second wave of the company’s PRTS vehicle initiative, in line with its endeavours to continuously improve health and safety for its employees and local communities whilst also working towards the group’s goal of Building Better Cities. The PRTS compliant vehicles include at least two airbags, seat belts for all passengers and an anti-lock braking system.

“The PRTS compliant cars will facilitate our employees to go the extra mile in Building Better Cities,” said Mr Amr Reda during the vehicle handover. “We hold true to our commitment of health and safety for our employees. The road exposure due to travelling across cities in Pakistan subjects them to greater hazards. After the introduction of the PRTS compliant cars to the sales team we have extended to other employee segments. Alongside this, we encourage all our employees to consider PRTS compliance in all vehicles that they use. This innovation reinforces our commitment to providing a safe environment for our employees as we lead the industry in health and safety. We hope that other companies in the industries follow suit and car manufacturers offer PRTS compliance in all their vehicles to safeguard precious lives on the road.”

Lafarge Pakistan has carried out a number of measures aimed at enhancing road safety over the past year. This includes the construction of a slip road for heavy load vehicles in Kallar Kahar in May, and the establishment of a parking complex for drivers in April 2014. The complex provides drivers with a clean area where they can rest and have access to facilities, such as a mosque, restaurants and laundry service.
