Adelaide Brighton Cement acquires new quarry

According to reports, Adelaide Brighton Cement has acquired the Penrice limestone quarry in Angaston, northeast of Adelaide.

Adelaide Brighton will continue has bought the quarry as an ongoing concern, meaning many jobs will be saved. The cement company says the quarry is a key supplier to its lime and cement plant, which is also in the area.

Penrice went into voluntary administration in April.

Meanwhile, the Green party is suggesting that there ought to be a review of Adelaide Brighton’s emissions licence for its Birkenhead cement plant before it expires in 2017. Leader Mark Parnell has expressed concern over rising greenhouse gas and dust emissions from the plant, which was issued a 10-year licence by the Environment Protection Authority.
