Zuari Cement achieves ISO certification within 2 years

World Cement,

Italcementi’s Indian subsidiary, Zuari Cement, has achieved certification for the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system and the ISO 14001:2004 environment management system for its new grinding plant in Chennai. The 1 million t plant was only commissioned in 2011 and achieved certification in January and April, respectively.

The quality management certification shows that the plant consistently provides product that meets customer and statutory/regulatory requirements, while the environmental certification illustrates Italcementi’s commitment to sustainability and managing the plant’s environmental impact. The company’s other Indian plants are already certified to the same standard.

Zuari Cement has a total cement capacity of 6.2 million t in India, including two integrated cement plants and one grinding unit. The Chennai facility is situated in Attippattu, about 35 km from Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the company is developing a 3 million tpa plant in North Karnataka and a new grinding plant in Maharashtra. It currently has a market share of more than 5% and aims to strengthen its presence in key markets in the coming years.
