Emami Cement Ltd, part of the Emami Group of Companies, decided to set up a greenfield cement plant in Chhattisgarh, India, after a detailed analysis of the market situation. The facility is currently under erection.

For a separate grinding unit, which is to be constructed in West Bengal, Emami Cement ordered an additional MVR cement mill of from Gebr. Pfeiffer SE and its Indian subsidiary Gebr. Pfeiffer (India) Pvt. Ltd. The order covers an MVR 6000 C-6 mill with an installed drive power of 6700 kW, which will be capable of producing 335 tph of OPC. The plant will also be designed to allow for the grinding of flyash cement and granulated blast-furnace slag to a fineness of 3800 cm2/g and 4000 cm2/g acc. to Blaine, respectively.

The main advantage of the MVR 6000 C-6 mill is its six rollers. In the case of an unplanned outage of one grinding roller, the mill can to continue to operate with four rollers, while the roller swung out of the mill is being repaired. This new concept allows the customer to carry out maintenance works on two rollers outside the mill while still producing cement (albeit at a slightly lower capacity).

Due to the MVR mill’s modular design, the essential components, such as bearings, seals of the grinding rollers and the tension system, as well as the gear units of the mill main drive, will be designed so as to be identical to the parts of the MVR mills that have been previously supplied to the customer (i.e. an MVR 6000 R-6 and an MVR 6000 C-6). This will enable the customer to manage with a smaller number of spare parts, which can be used for all of the MVR mills.

Emami Cement sought advice from New-Delhi-based Cemtech India and Guargon-headquartered Holtec on the implementation of the new grinding plant, as had been the case with the previous order dealing with the grinding plants for the new cement facility. The positive experience that these consultants have had with mills from Gebr. Pfeiffer over a 20-year period was a contributing factor to the customer’s decision. Gebr. Pfeiffer SE will supply the core components of the mills and the gear units from Europe. Its Indian subsidiary, Gebr. Pfeiffer (India) Pvt. Ltd, will provide components such as the housing of the mill and classifier, the steel foundation parts, as well as all static and dynamic interior parts of the classifier and, in addition, supply some of the equipment required to complete the grinding plant. Moreover, the Indian subsidiary will carry out the plant layout and advise on the equipment to be procured by the customer.
