New JV greenfield cement plant commences operations in Karnataka, India
On 18 December 2012, the Vicat Group announced the news that its Vicat-Sagar greenfield cement plant had commenced operations, stating that the plant will strengthen its operations in India.
The joint venture, between the Vicat Group and Sagar Cement is located in the northern part of Karnataka, and once all of its lines are producing, will have a production capacity of 2.8 million tpa. As well as making use of the latest technology and an integrated power plant, the new plant has been sited with immediate access to the railway network as a key consideration.
The cement produced by the plant will be marketed under Vicat Group brand, Bharathi, I order to take advantage of the extensive group distribution network. A further advantage to this decision is that the brand is already well trusted and established in the markets of western and southern India, the region throughout which the Vicat-Sagar plant will supply its product.
