Cemex raises US$500 000 for reconstruction projects in the Philippines

World Cement,

Cemex has raised US$500 000 in aid of those affected by the Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The amount was raised via an internal fundraising campaign, with donations from Cemex employees worldwide matched two-to-one by the company.

The donation will go towards reconstruction projects in some of the most affected areas. Cemex is working with governmental and non-governmental partners to channel the funds through the Cemex Philippines Foundation’s Build Unity programme, focusing on high-priority rebuilding projects in Northern Cebu. As part of the initiative, houses and schools will be rebuilt, a new community health centre and community training facility will be developed, and a boat ambulance will be donated to the region. It also includes the construction of cement sculptures and provision of driftwood figures, which will help to attract marine life back to Northern Cebu’s coastline.

“We feel we can touch the lives of people who really need help; not only covering their basic needs, but also providing them with support for the future. Cemex is committed to the Philippines. We are here, and we are here for the long haul. We want to return to our communities all of the positive things they give us,” stated Pedro Palomino, President of Cemex in the Philippines.
