Tokyo Cement adds another cement carrier to fleet

Tokyo Cement, Sri Lanka, reported an 11% y/y drop in net profit in June 2015. Income fell 26% to Rs.107 million, while expenses increased 15%. The company has also reported that it has added a fifth vessel to its fleet of cement transport ships. The ship is a 22 000 t pneumatic bulk cement carrier.
The company’s Managing Director, S R Gnanam, said at the launch event that increased local demand had required the company to increase its transport, manufacturing and energy generation capacity. The company has increased production capacity at its Trincomalee plant to 1 million t and the new ship will help transport cement to the port in Colombo. In all the company now has more than 2 million t of cement production capacity.
