SCCC looking to build a plant in Burma
Press reports from Thailand indicate that the country’s second largest cement producer, Siam City Cement (SCCC) is looking to build a cement plant in Burma.
The project is part of the Italian-Thai’s Development Plan (ITD) where SCCC has been chosen as one of the prospective cement companies to further increase industrialisation. SCCC Executive Vice President Chantana Sukumanont confirmed that SCCC had already carried out a feasibility study on Burma to ascertain if a cement plant would yield favourable results. Holcim has also expressed an interest in helping to develop Burma. Such a project would obviously create more job opportunities.
SCCC also continues to execute two major expansion projects: doubling the capacity of the INSEE Mortar plant, and the construction of a third production line for Conwood products. Both projects are located in Saraburi and will be completed in 2012.
To reflect its commitment to developing renewable energy, SCCC will regroup in a new subsidiary called Geocycle Co Ltd, both its energy from waste business and its waste heat power generation business in the first months of 2011.
