Vietnam records an increase in cement consumption

According to data from the Vietnam National Cement Association (VICEM), domestic cement consumption increased by 9.3% y/y to 20.42 million t in the first five months of 2014. Furthermore, in May 2014, cement consumption in Vietnam rose by 12% y/y to approximately 4.87 million t. Nguyen Quang Cung, Chairman of VICEM, predicted that the domestic cement consumption would reach 50 million t this year.
Vietnam also witnessed an increase in exports, shipping around 7 million t of cement in the first five months of the year period, a 42% y/y increase compared to the same period in 2013. In addition, some 2 million t of cement and clinker was shipped in May 2014. Nguyen Quang Cung noted that cement exports are anticipated to reach 20 million t this year.
