Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister, Hun Sen, said the Thai Boon Roong Cement Plant, built on 678 ha. in the Dangtong district, is capable of producing 2 500 t of cement a day, or nearly 1 million tpy.
"It's the fifth cement plant in Cambodia, bringing the total cement production capacity in the kingdom to about 8 million tpy," he said. “The new plant will help reduce cement imports by a great amount, which means that Cambodia will be almost 100% self-reliant.”
The Prime Minister also added that the new plant is being constructed in order to meet the rapidly growing domestic demand of cement for the construction sector.
Cambodia currently has five cement plants; four are situated in the Kampot province and one is located in the Northwestern Battambang province.
