World Cement,

In a statement issued at the end of 2009, the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA) estimated that cement sales in 2009 were 45 million t, a y/y increase of 11%. The total designed production capacity of cement plants across Vietnam is close to 60 million t, while the actual capacity fluctuates between 45 and 46 million t. With the completion of several new plants supplies this year could increase by over 5 million t compared to 2009.

This news came as three new plants went into service in the final week of 2009. The Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai inaugurated the 1.51 million tpa Quang Son Cement plant in Quang Son commune Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen. In Phu Thu town, Kinh Mon district, Ha Duong province, two Phuc Son plants officially went into operation. The total capacity of the plants is 1.8 million tpa, and both were designed by the Tianjin Cement Industry Design and Research Institute, and built by Sinoma, China. Total investment for these two was US$ 105 million.

This follows the news that one of Vietnam’s largest economic projects in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, the establishment of the 2 million tpa Binh Phuoc cement plant, is expected to begin operations soon following trial runs in December. The total investment was VND 8000 billion.
