Indian industry displays growth in March
Aditya Birla
Cement shipments were up 9.7% y/y in March, at 3.7 million t. Production rose 7.6% to 3.66 million t. The group is merging its cement operations under UltraTech Cement, a move announced last year and to be completed by July. Once complete, UltraTech Cement will be the largest cement company in India.
Ambuja Cements
The Holcim-owned company has reported 11.1% y/y growth in cement dispatches in March, at 1.91 million t. The company is largely based in the northern and western regions, where demand is forecast to remain strong.
Shree Cement
Shree Cement is also focused on the northern market, and achieved a 10.75% y/y growth in dispatches in March at 0.92 million t.
Jaiprakesh Associates
Jaiprakesh has achieved outstanding growth of 75% y/y for March dispatches of clinker and cement.
Both Ambuja Cements and Shree Cement fell short of expectations in February, but this has been attributed to poor weather conditions in the northern region. March has seen a rise in construction activity, perhaps related to the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi.
