Lafarge inaugurates Construction Development Laboratory in Malaysia

World Cement,

Lafarge Malaysia has inaugurated a Construction Development Laboratory (CDL) in Klang Valley, which will support the group’s focus on ‘building better cities’. This is the first CDL in Southeast Asia and the sixth worldwide. The CDL in Malaysia will include three labs (cement, concrete and aggregates) with state-of-the-art testing equipment for quality control and assurance. There is also a testing space for prototypes and demonstrations of new systems and structures. The new facility will enable greater collaboration with local industry and stakeholders, bringing together architects, developers and engineers to work together to develop new ideas and solutions. The CDL will also regularly host experts from Lafarge’s Center of Research in France for enhanced knowledge and technology sharing.

“The CDL will enable us to test, adapt and tailor innovative solutions developed by the Group's Research Centre. This will accelerate the development and delivery of offerings to better meet local construction needs,” said Bradley Mulroney, President and CEO of Lafarge Malaysia.

As part of its commitment to ‘building better cities’, Lafarge Malaysia signed an MoU with CIDB Holdings Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), towards the end of 2013. The agreement will help to raise construction standards and sustainable practices through training and skills development.
