World Cement,

In 2014 – 2015, the Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) is set to increase its focus on healthcare and sanitation programmes for communities in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The foundation works with a competent team of professionals at all its 22 locations, undertaking projects and schemes that promote the social and economic development of communities in and around the manufacturing locations of Ambuja Cement Ltd. ACF already manages a team of around 320 Village Health Functionaries, who work on promoting ante and post natal care and general sanitation.

Sanitation is a primary concern for ACF. To date, the foundation has built around 11 000 toilets and 3700 pits for waste management, and helped some 84 000 people in 160 villages.

Infant and maternal mortality rates are also an area of concern throughout the country. Pearl Tiwari, Director of the Ambuja Cement Foundation, noted that the foundation’s healthcare intervention programmes work towards preventive, curative and promotive care in rural locations where there is a lack of even basic healthcare facilities. ACF is aiming to develop healthy communities through promoting home-based neonatal care, child development and nutrition.
