JSW Cement, one of India’s largest producers of slag cement, is targeting a growth of 9 – 10% in south Indian markets this year. The company currently holds a market share of 5% in southern India.
As part of the expansion plans, JSW Cement is reportedly planning to extend its operations to the coastal state of Kerala, which has recently experienced an increase in construction activity and infrastructure projects. According to Pankaj Kulkarni, Director of JSW Cement Ltd, infrastructure development in the region is expected to result in a 9% y/y increase in cement demand. Kulkarni told local press that, due to Kerala’s coastal location and heavy monsoon season, the manufacturer would focusing on selling Portland slag cement (PSC) in the region, which offers high resistance to corrosion from both soil and the atmosphere.
JSW Cement is currently constructing a 3 million tpa cement facility in Chitrapur, Karnataka, which, when completed, will help to meet market demand in southern India.
