World Cement,
Vue Australia and its trading entity East Coast Cement, has announced that they have completed full commissioning of their major 34 000 t cement terminal facility on Kooragang Island at the Port of Newcastle.
Previously a petroleum coke and alumina storage facility that was set for closure, Vue recognised an opportunity to revive the site to house cement. “The team has worked hard over the last two years upgrading the 1968 infrastructure, improving efficiencies and bringing it up to the latest operational standards,” said Alan Marsden, CEO of Vue and ECC. “We have also worked closely with our global cement supplier and we can deliver a range of quality products suitable for the Australian market.”
ECC will be in a position under current approvals to deliver up to an initial 300 000 t of cement to the NSW market annually. The facility also has further capacity for related products and additional cement.
Alan Marsden commented that “we are also delighted to announce our first major contract with a significant multinational company and are very encouraged by other early stage discussions with potential customers. With full commissioning having now occurred we can move with confidence to grow our business towards our targets with monthly shipments of cement having commenced”.
Marsden continued, “ECC has a logistic network that covers the majority of New South Wales from Albury in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north via both road and rail. We expect to be able to benefit from a tight supply market with a number of infrastructure projects in NSW expected to commence in the coming years”.
