Indian cement shipment figures on the rise in May
Indian cement producers displayed a positive performance in May as shipments were on the increase.
Aditya Birla Group’s cement shipments reached 3.3 million t over May – a 5.6% increase on last year’s figure. The group’s production figures also rose 5.6% to 3.42 million t. Its sales figures remained stable compared to figures for the previous month.
Ambuja Cement recorded shipment figures of 1.86 million t for last month, a 13.7% increase compared to last year; however, its sales figures fell by 5.3% on a month-on-month basis.
Jaiprakash Associates reported a 63% increase in sales compared to May last year, supported by substantial recent capacity increase.
JK Lakshmi Cement sales jumped 14% in May to 360 000 t, production levels also increased 5% to 350 000 t, compared to 330 000 t last year.
Shree Cement’s shipment figures for May were up 15% from last year with the company dispatching 8.5 million t.
The Indian cement industry is looking to add some 110 million t of capacity over the next three years, while the impending monsoon season is likely to slow the construction sector temporarily.
