JK Lakshmi Cement will continue with work on Durg plant

JK Lakshmi Cement, India, has announced it will continue with plans to set up a 2.7 million t greenfield plant in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh, despite damage caused to the facility last week by local villagers. According to reports, hundreds of people entered the site on 4 April, angered by the company’s alleged reluctance to give jobs to the local people affected by the plant. The crowd set fire to parts of the plant, which is still under construction. The plant’s owners are currently trying to ascertain the extent of the damage.

In a statement, JK Lakshmi Cement reiterated its commitment to the project, which marks an investment of Rs.1500 crore.

JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd currently operates a 5.5 million t cement plant in Rajasthan, together with grinding units in Gujarat and Haryana and 11 ready-mix concrete plants.
