World Cement,

Indian news agencies report that ACC Ltd is set to enter the north coastal Andhra Pradesh market (Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts) this month, and is planning to double the capacity of the slag grinding plant it recently acquired in Vizag.

Vivek Agnihotri, Director (Sales), East, said that the company had rapidly expanded its capacity in the past decade from 8 million t to the current 30 million t. It recently acquired ENCORE Cement and Additives Ltd, with a capacity of 2 lakh tpa. “We will gradually double it and go beyond, as we make inroads into the local market”, commented Agnihotri

He also explained that a special type of cement, capable of combating corrosion in coastal areas, would be manufactured and released in the market. Corrosion is a major problem in coastal areas and the new cement will be ideally suited for the conditions.

ACC is also increasing capacities at its plants at Bargarh (Orissa), Thondebhavi (Bangalore), Kudhithini (near Bellary) and Chanda (Maharashtra). The company has also acquired a 45% stake in Asian Cement and is expanding its capacity from 0.3 million t to 1.3 million t. Captive power generation has been increased to meet 71% of its requirement.

At present ACC has 16 plants in India.
