SsangYong Cement to upgrade Donghae cooler

SsangYong Cement has awarded German engineering company, Claudius Peters Projects, a contract for the supply of a grate cooler modification. The contract will see the existing cooler at SsangYong’s Donghae cement plant upgraded to a fifth generation clinker cooler system – the ETA cooler.

The ETA cooler consists of a fixed inlet, the high-efficiency module and a moving floor ETA technology. It is designed for a stable production of 7600 tpd. According to Claudius Peters, a case study among several competitors showed “lowest wear, lowest operations cost and highest efficiency for the ETA cooler technology”.

Despite challenging site conditioned, Claudius Peters “special installation technique” will result in only a short period of kiln downtime during the conversion project, the company said.

SsangYong Cement was established in 1962. Its Donghae plant is the world’s largest cement plant with a capacity of 11.5 million tpy of clinker. In addition to the cooler modification, the company also recently upgraded the conveyor system that runs between the plant and its quarry – a system that includes one of the longest single slight conveyors in the world.
