World Cement,
Taiheiyo Cement’s Singapore Cement Manufacturing (SCMC), a JV with Hong Leong Asia Ltd, has announced the completion of a 24 000 t cement silo at SCMC’s cement terminal. The new silo will store a new type of cement specifically formulated to satisfy market demand in Singapore, where infrastructure investment is driving demand for low-heat-type cement as a way to prevent thermal cracking in concrete structures. The product is defined as type CEM II according to Singapore’s cement quality standard and is manufactured from Portland cement and admixtures such as flyash. It offers greater resistance to thermal cracking, higher long-term strength, improved workability and lower alkali-silica reactivity. It is certified under the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme, which recognises its environmental friendliness. The new cement was used in the construction of the company’s new silo.
Taiheiyo plans to use flyash from Japan to manufacture the product, which complements SCMC’s existing range of Ordinary Portland Cement.
