Promoting natural sites to the global community

Natural sites across the world can sometimes be difficult to protect and require large efforts to do so. Unique and renowned sites, such as the Galapagos Islands, Ha Long Bay and the Yellowstone National Park, are acknowledged by UNESCO’s World Heritage Convention as important sites to safeguard.

Cemex, the International Union for the Conservative nature (IUCN), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), and the WILD foundation have joined together to promote awareness of significant natural sites to conserve them for future generations.

“World Heritage Areas encompass some of the most spectacular wilderness areas remaining on earth. We must protect them for their own values, as well as recognise their value for a healthy, sane and prosperous human society,” said Vance G. Martin, President of The WILD Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Wilderness Specialists Group, IUCN.

Cemex will soon release the third volume of it’s Nature Series, Earth’s Legacy: Natural World Heritage. It develops on the Cemex Conservation Series ¬– a 20-volume collection of books, ongoing since 1993 ¬– and will include descriptions and images of over 100 natural sites, which are considered to be essential to protect.

“We are pleased to work with these organisations and publish this compelling contribution to the conservation of natural World Heritage sites. Together, we can make a significant contribution to discussions and actions that improve and preserve the biodiversity in every corner of the planet,” commented Fernando A. Gonzalez, CEO of Cemex. “The celebration of the World Environment Day has provided us with the ideal framework to make this announcement.”
