The Indian government has allocated RS 115.91 crore to the state-owned Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation for the modernisation of the company’s Alangulam plant. The proposed modernisation will not only increase production by 50%, it will also reduce production costs by 50%, according to an official press release.

The cement plant is located at Alangulum in Virudhunagar district. It began commercial production in 1970 - 71. Its current capacity is 400 000 tpa, and it manufactures and markets its Arasu brand cement in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Major clients include government departments.
