Indian government aid for Tamil Nadu Cement project

World Cement,

The Indian government has allocated RS 115.91 crore to the state-owned Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation for the modernisation of the company’s Alangulam plant. The proposed modernisation will not only increase production by 50%, it will also reduce production costs by 50%, according to an official press release.

The cement plant is located at Alangulum in Virudhunagar district. It began commercial production in 1970 - 71. Its current capacity is 400 000 tpa, and it manufactures and markets its Arasu brand cement in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Major clients include government departments. It has been reported that the plant has been under financial pressure due to high production costs attributed to outdated technology, fuel and power.
