JK Cement has commenced production at its 1.5 million tpa grey cement plant in Haryana.

Shree Cement commissioned its 2 million tpa grinding unit at Aurangabad in Bihar on 30 June. Start-up of its clinker production line at Bangur City, Ras in Rajasthan also began on 30 June. The new clinker line has a capacity of 6000 tpd.

Meanwhile, price rises in India have caused alarm among end users including the Builders Association of India and the real estate body, Credai. Credai is alleging that the cement producers have conspired to raise prices by about Rs.100 per bag. In protest, Credai has said it will not buy cement from 5^th – 12^th July.

In June 2012, 11 cement companies in India were fined Rs.6307 crore by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The CCI issued the fine after a 2-year investigation into price fixing by the accused companies and the Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA).
