Dalian Onoda and Dalian Dontai sign waste agreement

World Cement,

China Industrial Waste Management, Inc, has announced that its 90% owned Dalian Dongtai Industrial Waste Treatment Co Ltd has signed a waste management cooperation contract with Dalian Onoda Cement to process industrial waste utilising Dalian Onoda’s cement kiln.

Dalian Dongtai signed a letter of intent with Dalian Onoda on 8 November 2009, and since then the two firms have processed 3000 t of solid waste in a trial run. As an additional element of the contract, a research team will be formed by the two companies to develop new waste management methods and technologies based on lessons learnt from the collaboration.

Jason Dong, CEO of Dalian Dongtai said, “We are excited to announce this collaboration with Dakian Onoda and the addition of another important waste treatment method to our business that substantially boosts our industrial waste processing capacity. Given the massive scale of China’s cement industry, we feel the development of cement kiln waste processing has significant potential, and the environmental benefits should also be considerable. The current hazardous waste management capacity of the facilities operated by Dalian Dongtai is 56 000 tpa. Through our cooperation with Dalian Onoda, we believe our company will be able to increase its current hazardous waste management capacity by 36% or 20 000 tpa immediately and by 125% to 143% or 70 000 to 80 000 tpa within the next five years.”

Dalian Onoda is a cement plant owned by Taiheiyo Cement Co Ltd. It was designated as a trial plant as the result of a cooperation agreement between the governments of Norway and China. Its advanced production technology can utilise industrial waste as a raw material for cement. Dalian Dontai treats, disposes of and/or recycles many types of industrial wastes, and recycled waste products used by customers as a raw material to produce chemical and metallurgy products.
