Indian cement production

World Cement,

Cement production in India is forecast to increase by 10% this fiscal year, reaching 300 million t. Sumit Banerjee, who recently resigned from his position of Managing Director at ACC Ltd, predicts that this growth may persist for the next few years as demand for housing and infrastructure continues, and the cement industry strives for more cement to be used in highway and road construction. The Indian road network is one of the largest in the world – stretching to 3.3 million km.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revealed plants to invest US$ 354 billion in the road system by 2012.

Resignation
Sumit Banerjee resigned from this position at ACC this week and is likely to join the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group to drive its entry into the cement industry.

Elsewhere
Other news in India includes reported shipments for Ambuja Cements Ltd, the nation’s third biggest producer. Shipments in June were 6.2% higher that last year’s figure, totalling 1.69 million t.
