Ghana

The ports of Tema and Takoradi, Ghana, imported a total of 3.6 million t of dry bulk goods in 2013. This included 1.77 million t of clinker and more than 775 500 t of cement. According to local press, the Ghana Shippers Authority indicated that, between them, maritime trade increased by 10.7% y/y to 21.5 million t in 2013. Total imports grew by 10.4% y/y while exports were up by 11.7% y/y.

USA

Port Everglades, South Florida, has announced that its ‘2014 Master/Vision Plan’ has received approval. This plan includes targets and projects to 2033 and outlines some US$1.6 billion in capital investments. The seaport expects the amount of non-containerised cargo, such as cement, steel and aggregates, to triple by 2033, estimating that volumes moving through the port will reach almost 3.3 million t. Plans for the next five years include a new neo-bulk storage yard for non-containerised cargo, a new outbound lane for cargo trucks and the acquisition of super post-Panamax cranes. The construction of an aggregate facility with underground conveyance from the docks to the rail facility is among the port’s proposed projects to 2033.

China

Chinese logistics and transportation company, Guizhong Haixun Logistics, has announced the successful purchase of a Volvo wheel loader for use at the Fangcheng Port in Guangxi, China. The Volvo L105 wheel loader moves, loads and stocks cargo along the dock of the port, and is capable of filling a hauler in six loads. It is equipped with a three-level filter to improve the air quality in the driver’s cab, providing protection from dust particles and unpleasant odors.

Fangcheng Port is the largest in Western China, with the capacity to handle more than 100 million tpa of cargo.

"The Volvo L105 wheel loader made a lasting impression at the 2012 Bauma construction show in China,” stated Zhang Jian, General Manager of Guizhong Haixun Logistics. “After the show we enquired about the machine and checked its compatibility with our needs in the port. It turns out it’s perfect for our operations."
