According to new research by EC Harris, the UAE’s construction industry is booming due to major projects such as the Expo 2020 and increased spending on social infrastructure. In 2014, the total value of announced and planned projects reached US$315 billion. Furthermore, the research found that the UAE is setting the pace for sustainable development in the MENA region, resulting in higher regional standards in the outdoor construction and design industry.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are definitely leading the way for sustainable development here in the MENA region, noted Walter Bone, Landscape Design Architect at Khatib & Alami. The municipalities have provided minimum standards that all developers must adhere to and many developers are going above and beyond these standards, setting the bar for other developers to follow.
