South African cement manufacturer PPC Ltd has been recognised by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business. An awards dinner was held in New York City, USA, on 14 November, during which Gold, Silver and Bronze prize winners were announced. PPC Ltd’s Head of Corporate Social Investment, Francie Shonhiwa, received Gold in the ‘Women Helping Women in Business’ category, with Tryhosa Ramano and Juanita September picking up Bronze for the ‘Female Executive of the Year’ and ‘Maverick of the Year’ categories, respectively.

Over 1200 entries from 22 countries were submitted for this year’s awards, which comprise 90 categories. Finalists were selected by a group of more than 100 business professionals.

“PPC Ltd should be very proud of their three Stevie Award wins in the 2014 Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Our panel of distinguished judges deemed PPC Ltd as the highest scoring Stevie Awards entry in the ‘Women Helping Women – All Other Industries’ category,” said Michael Gallagher, President and Founder of the Stevie Awards. “Francie Shonhiwa of PPC Ltd’s efforts in creating an income-generating project at Time for Change, a home for abused women and young girls living on the streets, was most impressive to the judging panel. Along with being the leading supplier of cement in southern Africa, their collection of entries to the Stevie Awards for Women in Business shows that they are not only a supplier, but also a leader in promoting women in the workplace, and the world.”

“PPC is honoured to be acknowledged for its involvement in driving positive change in the communities in which we operate. To be placed alongside international businesses that have led transformation all over the world is a great tribute and a strong validation of our continued dedication to the mission that is inclusive business,” added Francie Shonhiwa, PPC Head of Corporate Social Investment.
