Lafarge Iraq launches new cement product

Lafarge Iraq has launched a new version of Karasta, its multipurpose cement made specifically for use in the Middle Eastern climate. Karasta can be used for a number of applications, including structural concrete production, construction projects (residential, industrial, commercial, etc.), precast concrete and reinforced concrete elements, concrete block or pipe making and general masonry works (bricklaying mortar, plastering and screed applications).
The company has revised the formula of Karasta to improve its workability, decrease cracking and improve setting time and adhesion. The new formula meets the Iraq specification 3868 and the international standards EN 197-1:2011 CEM II/A-L 42.5 R. The cement is manufactured at the company’s Bazian and Tasluja plants near Slemani, located in the Kurdistan region.
The new Karasta cement went on sale in Erbil on 22 June 2014 and will soon be available in a number of cities throughout the country.
