Bamburi Cement to separate Kenyan and Ugandan operations

World Cement,

Bamburi Cement is set to appoint separate CEOs for its operations in Kenya and Uganda. The Kenyan company has three subsidiaries (Bamburi Cement Ltd, Bamburi Special Products Ltd and Lafarge Eco Systems) and the Ugandan business is run as Hima Cement Ltd; both companies are currently managed as a single entity.

Hussein Mansi, CEO of Bamburi Cement, stated that, starting 21 July 2014, the Kenya-Uganda cluster will be managed as two separate organisations, each with a country CEO and executive team, in an attempt to improve market focus.

Bruno Pescheux, currently CEO of the company’s Syrian operations, will be appointed as the CEO for Bamburi Kenya, while the Daniel Pettersson, General Manager of Hima Cement, will become CEO of the Ugandan business. Pescheux and Pettersson will report directly to Tom Farrell, Group Executive Vice President of Operations.

Mansi further noted that the new organisation would allow the company to achieve its ambitions by enabling greater flexibility in setting strategy and in responding to local customer needs. Mansi is set to relocate to Lafarge Egypt by the end of next month.
