Colacem’s Les Ciments Artificiels Tunisien (CAT) has been granted ISO 9001: 2015 certification for its quality management system, becoming one of the first companies – and the first cement plant – in Tunisia to be awarded the certification.
CAT operates a cement plant in the northeast of the North African country, producing cement for local consumption, as well as export to Libya. Privatised in 2000, CAT was acquired by Italian cement maker, Colacem.
According to the ISO website, ISO 9001:2015 includes two broad specifications for a quality management system.
Firstly, the quality management system should demonstrate the ability to provide products and services that meet customer, statutory and regulatory requirements. In addition, the quality management system should aim to “enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.”
The standard was published in September 2015. It is a generic standard, intended to be applicable to any organisation, regardless of its type of size, or the products and services it provides.
