Iraq imports more cement from Iran

Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance has announced that the country exported over US$ 637 million of cement during the past Iranian year (ending 20 March). Iraq, the Persian Gulf littoral states, the Central Asia countries and Afghanistan were mentioned as the major destinations. The IRNA said that Iraq imported more than 1.5 million t of cement worth US$ 456 million from Iran and was the major importer of the product from Iran.

Iran currently produces about 65 million tpa of cement. The Mehr News Agency reported earlier this month that the country’s cement plants produced nearly 20 million t during the first four months of the current year, which was a 16% increase compared with the same period in the previous year.

Iran’s Minister of Industries and Mines, Ali Akbar Mehrabian recently indicated that Iran now ranks fifth in the world in terms of cement production.
