Tanzania’s Tanga Cement plans expansion
Tanzania’s Tanga Cement Company Limited has announced plans to invest US$165 million in the construction a second kiln line to more than double clinker capacity at the plant.
Managing Director Erik Westerburg said that the expansion will add 600 000 tpa to the plant’s existing 500 000 tpa clinker production capacity, helping to save the money currently spent on importing clinker.
The plans were announced during a recent plant tour with distributors, and the company’s Quality Assurance Manager, Michael Ruzige, also took the opportunity to advise cement users to adhere to specified standards in order to ensure a quality product.
"We have inscribed the cement mixing ratios on the bags of all Simba brand products to help the users of our cement to produce strong and quality products that match the quality of the cement itself," Mr Ruzige told the visitors.
In addition to Tanga’s expansion, Dangote has laid the foundation stone for a new plant in Tanzania and other players are entering the market. Cement demand currently stands at around 4 million tpa, but is expected to grow thanks to infrastructure investments.
