Local media have reported that Cimpor, an InterCement Group Company forming part of Brazil’s Camargo Corrêa, will increase its capacity in Mozambique. A rental contract on a mill near the Matola cement plant will help Cimentos de Moçambique to expand its grinding capacity to 220 000 tpa.

In other news, InterCement was recognised for its activities in Paraguay, winning the award for ‘Company/person that has contributed to the industrial development of Paraguay’ at Expo Feiras 2013. The company has been operating in the country since 2000 and has a 30% market share. It is currently investing around US$150 million into a new cement plant with a production capacity of 400 000 tpa. The first stage of the project will commence in October 2013. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2H14.
