Dangote Cement Plc. has announced a new multi-million naira scholarship award scheme, which will benefit secondary school and higher institution students from across its 14 host communities.
On 21 December, cheques were presented to 49 such students from across the country. Dangote Cement also highlighted the procedure and criteria for the scholarship, with candidates being recommended by their communities. The number of candidates from each community is then regulated by the Nigerian Population Commission’s estimate of the population of the affecte communities, with screening undertaken by a scholarship management committee, made up of representatives from the communities, government and Dangote’s representatives.
The scheme forms part of the company’s wider efforts to contribute to the educational development of its host communities, and is part of the company’s CSR plant to have a positive imact on the community in which it operates. It is this that has made the CSR profile of the company so robust.
