Dangote Cement to boost capacity fivefold

Dangote Cement, Nigeria, now Africa’s largest cement producer since its merger with Benue Cement, has announced plans to increase its capacity by more than five times by 2015.

Dangote is looking to increase its capacity to 46.2 million t over the coming years with investments both in Nigeria and other African countries. Capacities outside Nigeria are to be increased to 16.2 million t, while output within the nation is to rise to 30 million t. Dangote’s Obajana plant currently operates with a production capacity of 5.2 million t, while Benue Cement, with whom Dangote merged earlier this month, has a production capacity of 3 million t.

Kunle Alake, Chief Operating Officer, said, “we’re in South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone; we already have terminals in Ghana and we plan to have a grinding mill in Cameroon.”
