Wärtsila and Umm AlQura Cement Company have signed a contract that will see Wärtsilä assume full responsibility for operations and maintenance of Umm AlQura’s power plant near Taif city in Saudi Arabia. The power plant consists of five Wärtsilä 32 engines with a combined output of 47 MW and its related equipment. The agreement aims to ensure the maximised lifetime and guaranteed performance and lifecycle costs for the power plant in the long-term.

”We wanted a partner that can provide us with the highest possible level of risk management, ongoing maintenance and engine efficiency, as the power plant serves our cement factory in extreme ambient conditions, such as high ambient temperatures and high altitudes,” said Mr. Fawaz Al-Mutairi, General Manager from Umm AlQura.

Moeen Arshad, General Manager, Wärtsilä Corporation, said that the company is enthusiastic to begin its cooperation with Umm AlQura.“We are committed to offer them the possibility to focus on their core business while we take the operative responsibility of the installation,” he said.

The new version of the Wärtsilä 32 engine is designed to operate efficiently in all conditions, and it delivers reduced fuel consumption while complying with the World Bank Environment, Health and Safety guidelines for NOX emissions.
