World Cement,

AshakaCem Plc has committed over N150 million to developmental projects in thirteen communities around its operations in Gombe State-Ashaka cement plant and Maiganga coal mine within the current year.

Three of these projects, including the electrification of three newly relocated villages, the construction of a block with two classrooms at Mannari and a maternity clinic at Wurobapparu, were presented to appreciative members of the communities at commissioning ceremones that were held on Monday 14 December.

Earlier in 2015 the company commissioned solar boreholes in the villages of Hammakolori, Nayinawa, Maidukuri and Unguwansla. In addition awarding scholarships to 200 undergraduates, skills acquisition training in masonry, welding, electrical installation, carpentry and tailoring was organised for 72 youths from various communities.

While addressing participants at the commissioning of 2015 community development projects, AshakaCem`s Managing Director, Mr. Leonard Palka disclosed that "as a responsible corporate citizen, AshakaCem Plc views corporate social responsibility as a way of life and a continuous exercise that must be sustained to maintain an excellent relationship and promote goodwill within its host communities". He besought continued support and cooperation from all stakeholders as the company is poised to do even more in the coming years, with the backing of its mother companies in Nigeria and across the globe.

Deriving from the values of LafargeHolcim`s principle of sustainable social investment, AshakaCem`s community development efforts focus on key areas of health and safety, education, infrastructure and youth empowerment.
