Royal decree to import cement into Saudi Arabia

According to the Saudi Press Agency, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has issued an order to import 10 million t of cement into the country. The aim is to end a shortage of cement in Saudi Arabia, where urban growth and infrastructure projects have boosted demand. A royal directive also calls for the establishment of 3 – 4 cement plants with a production capacity of 12 million t. Around SR3 billion will be invested in this initiative over the next three years.

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has also ordered the Ministry of Finance to invest SR250 billion in the construction of new housing units in the country. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs will hand over land to the Ministry of Housing on which to build the homes.
