World Cement,
Ciment de l’Afrique has begun selling cement from its new 500 000 tpa plant in Douala, Cameroon. A new advertisement campaign promoting the brand has been launched and the new cement is available at hardware stores in the country.
Cameroon’s cement market has historically been monopolised by Lafarge subsidiary Cimenteries du Cameroun, which has been operating in the country for 48 years. With the arrival of a new player on the scene, it is hoped that cement prices in the country will begin to decrease, though it should be noted that Cimaf was already present in the market through cement imported from Morocco. Meanwhile, Dangote Cement is in the process of building a grinding plant in Douala, which incorporates a LM 53.3+3C Loesche mill. The 1.5 million tpa plant is scheduled to be completed in the first half of this year.
The new capacity in the market should alleviate the shortage of cement in the country and bring down prices.
