The Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), with the support of Cymot, has donated bicycles to the Otjozondjupa Regional Police to aid in the fight against crime in the Otjozondjupa region.

The 12 Challenger bicycles were handed-over on 8 April in Otavi. Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb received the donation on behalf of the Otjozondjupa Police, from the former Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Safety and Security, Dr. Ndeutala Angolo, who is also a Trustee Member of OOCT. The former Otavi Mayor, Markus Damaseb, who is also a Trustee member of OOCT, during his speech confirmed the commitment of OOCT. Otavi Constituency Councilor, Laina Nekundi also attended the event.

“The bicycles will be used in street patrols to fight all types of crime activities in Otavi & Otjiwarongo. It will also help us to reach areas which vehicles cannot access,” said Deputy Commissioner Khairabeb.

“Each police station will receive 6 of the bicycles.”

“The safety of communities remains an important factor, hence the commitment to join hands with the Police in fighting crime.”

Ohorongo Cement will always be a partner in initiatives such as this through its Trust,” said Mr Rudolf Coetzee, General Administration Manager at Ohorongo Cement.
