New cement plant in Tanzania contributes to country’s expansion
Lee Building Materials Ltd, China, is planning the construction of a US$ 12.5 million cement plant in Tanzania in September. The 300 000 tpa plant will be located some 250 km south of Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania produces approximately 3 million tpa of cement, with the nation’s demand reaching 2.1 million t. The 2008 reduction of import tariffs has made it difficult for local producers to win favour over producers from Pakistan, China and India.
This new development is in line with construction taking place elsewhere in the country – Tanga Cement is constructing a plant that will increase the company’s production capacity from 700 000 to 1.25 million tpa.
